Keyboard shortcuts
Deskathon uses the standard Mac shortcuts. The shortcuts for going to a tab or a day work while the main window is in front.
| Shortcut | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| ⌘, | Opens Settings. From the panel or the right-click menu it opens General. From the app menu it opens the pane you used last. | Panel, right-click menu, app menu |
| ⌘Q | Quits Deskathon. Nothing is counted until you open it again. | Panel, right-click menu, app menu |
| ⌘? | In versions after 1.0, opens this guide in your browser (Deskathon Help). | Help menu |
| ⌘1 | Goes to Today. | Go menu |
| ⌘2 | Goes to History. | Go menu |
| ⌘3 | Goes to Heat Map. | Go menu |
| ⌘4 and up | Go to the rest of the tabs, in sidebar order. Scroll and Lifetime are the last two. The Go menu shows every number. | Go menu |
| ⌘[ | Shows the Previous Day on Today, Keyboard and Scroll. It stops at the first day Deskathon tracked. | Go menu |
| ⌘] | Shows the Next Day on Today, Keyboard and Scroll. It stops at today. | Go menu |
With keyboard counting available, the numbers run one further: Keyboard is ⌘4, Scroll is ⌘5 and Lifetime is ⌘6.
The Go menu and the other app menus belong to the main window, so their shortcuts work while that window is in front. The shortcuts in the panel and the right-click menu work whenever those menus are open.

App menus
While the main window is in front, the menu bar at the top of the screen has these Deskathon menus, besides the standard Edit, View and Window menus. Window › Deskathon brings the main window forward.
- Deskathon: About Deskathon opens Settings › About. Settings… (⌘,) opens Settings.
- File: Share… opens the share sheet on the Today card. It has no shortcut. See Share cards.
- Go: every tab with its number, then Previous Day and Next Day.
- Counting: Resume Counting. It is available only while counting is paused. See Pause counting.
- Help: Deskathon Help (⌘?) opens this guide in your browser. This item is in versions after 1.0.
The menu bar item’s menu
Right-click the menu bar item, or Control-click it, for a short menu: Open Deskathon, Resume (only while paused), Pause with its three durations, Settings… (⌘,), Deskathon Help (in versions after 1.0) and Quit Deskathon (⌘Q). A plain click opens the panel instead. See Menu bar and panel.
The ⋯ menu at the bottom of the panel has Share…, Settings… (⌘,), Deskathon Help (in versions after 1.0) and Quit Deskathon (⌘Q).
deskathon:// links
Widgets use links that start with deskathon:// to open the app on the right screen. You can use them too, for example in Terminal with open "deskathon://open?tab=history".
| Link | What it opens |
|---|---|
deskathon://open?tab=today | The main window on Today. Clicking a widget uses this link. deskathon://open with nothing after it opens Today too. |
deskathon://open?tab=heatmap | The main window on Heat Map. The heat map in the Large widget uses it. |
deskathon://pro | The main window and the Pro sheet. A Medium or Large widget that needs Pro uses this link. |
The other values for tab are history, scroll and lifetime, and keyboard. A link that Deskathon doesn’t recognize opens Today and never opens a sheet. If Deskathon isn’t running yet, the link waits until it has started.
With Show in Dock on, clicking the Dock icon while no window is open shows the main window.
